Whether you’ve had experience with bail bonds or you’ve been reading up on our blog you may have a good understanding of what bail bonds are and how to use them.  Have you ever asked yourself “What does a bondsman do?”  Today we’re going to answer that question.  Here is a brief overview of a bondman’s responsibilities.

A Bail Bondsman – is your connection.

After someone you know has been arrested a bail bondsman or bail agent can act as a connection between you and the jail.  This helps simplify and expedite the bail process – as a licensed professional bail bondsmen consistently work with local jails and courthouses and have a working history with these institutions as well as an understanding of all the terminology and the bail process.

A Bail Bondsman – pledges money to the court.

When someone is arrested the bail bondsman or bond agent pledges or makes a guarantee to pay the money to the courthouse or jail in order to get the individual released.  This is a binding contract that promises the full amount will be covered.

A Bail Bondsman – secures the bail amount.

Because the cost of bail varies dependent on the type of crime the amount that you will be required to put down will vary.  Usually 10% of the bail amount is required.  Once that is paid the bondsman or bond agent can get to work securing the remaining amount of bail required.
